Pink Ribbon Day is celebrated every year on October 1st. This marks the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a very important time of the year.
Pink Ribbon Day was first celebrated in 1991. This first event started when the Koman Corporation handed out pink ribbons to people who participated in a race that was meant to spread awareness about breast cancer.
The following year, more new awareness activities were implemented. For instance, Self published its second annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month issue. Other corporations and non-profit groups became involved as well, and that is how this event grew to what it is today.
The original Pink Ribbon Day was called “Wear it Pink” and was sponsored by the
Breast Cancer Campaign committee. This event will celebrate its seventh anniversary in 2008 (this year) on October 31st.
Countless items using this symbol of a very important cause are used to express care and concern. Items such as personalized key chains, bracelets, medallions, I.D. tags, necklaces, earrings, and other crafts all symbolize awareness and prevention.
The purpose of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Pink Ribbon Day is to continue to educate people about the important of taking care of your self. This month is one of the most important times of the year for women.
