The Breast Cancer Awareness pink ribbon is a significant symbol of education, prevention, and treatment. It also helps promote the future of treatment advancements, which many hope will include a cure.
There is quite an interesting story behind the use of the Breast Cancer Awareness pink ribbon. The use of the ribbon first started in the early 1990s when a group of racers was given these items during a schedule race for breast cancer survivors.
Then, the magazine Self started issue Breast Cancer Awareness Month issues. Within a few years from this time the color pink became the official shade for Breast Cancer Awareness Pink Ribbon decorations.
This particular symbol soon became present on postage stamps, bracelets, pins, earrings, T-shirts, and necklaces. It also was printed on magnets, antenna toppers, cell phone decorations, and hats.
Specialty stuffed animals, rings, flags, key rings, purses, and photo frames bear this symbol. Moreover, T-shirts, golf towels, and other items that are often personalized are made for this special occasion.
This year marks the 8th anniversary of Wear it Pink day. The Breast Cancer Awareness pink ribbon will be worn on this day as well as on other days of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
